With so many accommodations to choose from in San Francisco, it can be hard to find the right hotel which is why I’m here to give you an overview all about The Jay Hotel (formerly Le Meridien) in San Francisco.
The Jay Hotel, an Autograph Collection hotel, is a newly renovated luxury boutique hotel nestled in the heart of this bustling city. Whether you’re visiting for work or planning a weekend getaway, this in-depth review will guide you through all the ins and outs of The Jay Hotel, ensuring that you have all the information you need when booking. Believe me, I’m a long-time San Francisco resident so I know how important hotel location and amenities are.
In this blog post, we’ll explore the best time to visit San Francisco, an insider’s look into the rooms and suites at The Jay, as well as all the amazing amenities including my personal favorite – Third Floor, which is the onsite restaurant with an outdoor rooftop terrace. (Don’t worry, there are fire pits galore to keep you warm to make up for the foggy nights we experience in San Francisco).

Simply put, The Jay Hotel is a sanctuary of modern luxury infused with historical elegance. This property has quickly become one of my favorite hotels in the area and is now my go-to recommendation for people planning to come visit me.
Inspired by the iconic San Francisco resident and sculptor Ruth Asawa, The Jay stands out as a masterpiece of design and comfort. World-renowned design firm AvroKo curated the interiors, blending contemporary aesthetics with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Each guest room and suite showcases custom-designed bath products, signature bedding, and state-of-the-art technology ensuring a unique experience for every guest.
There are a few different room types but I stayed in the Jay Signature Premiere King. Each room is 413 square feet (which is big by San Francisco standards) and comes with sweeping vistas of San Francisco’s iconic skyline. There was so much space to get comfortable, and I couldn’t stop obsessing over the chic décor and thoughtful amenities.
As mentioned earlier, there are other room types ranging from accessible rooms, double queens, suites, and even a top-floor luxury penthouse, also known as The Nest. The suites range from 585 to 1,666 square feet and blend luxury with comfort. Each suite offers a large living area, spacious bathroom, workspace, and inviting couches for relaxation. Inspired by Ruth Asawa, suites feature custom art and furniture that complement city and bay views. Asawa’s influence appears in the coastal color scheme and circular motifs. Artistic elements like brass sculptures in light fixtures and linear patterns add elegance and embody Asawa’s vision tangibly.

The Third Floor Restaurant’s culinary adventure is spearheaded by Chef Michael Magallanes, whose expertise and inventiveness converge to craft a memorable dining experience. What’s more memorable than taking down an entire seafood tower? Traditional favorites include the seared black cod and the roasted chicken, but honestly you can’t go wrong with any of the starters or mains.
Upholding the same ethos of innovation is their lounge bar, which features delicious handcrafted cocktails made with fresh juices, tinctures, and syrups. Not a fan of cocktails? Don’t worry. They also serve a curated wine selection that stretches from domestic gems to international vintages as well as a beer selection that pays homage to Northern California’s rich brewing culture.

TAKE IN THE VIEWS FROM THE THIRD-FLOOR TERRACE
As a San Francisco resident, I swear the one thing we’re missing is rooftop bars. I know our weather doesn’t always allow for it, but we get pretty sunny days too! Well, thank goodness for The Jay’s newly renovated rooftop terrace that offers beautiful views of the city. It also features a retractable pergola, making it an all-season venue. It’s like they really thought of everything you know?
Here, you can gather around the cozy fire pit, or relax in the stylish lounge as you take in the city lights. From specialty craft cocktails to delightful appetizers, you’re situated perfectly for a night of vibrant energy especially with The Terrace’s full bar and dining options.
This place is especially popular with the after work financial district crowd so I recommend arriving early or making a reservation in advance.
STAY CONNECTED AT THE JAY
At The Jay, they believe that a successful life is one where work and leisure harmonize. Since this hotel caters to both business and leisure travelers, they go the extra mile to ensure guests have all the tools to be productive. The guestrooms and suites boast top-of-the-line work amenities, while their dynamic meeting spaces are designed to encourage creativity and collaboration.
BRING YOUR FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND
It’s rare that I get to bring my best friend Bagel to any of my hotel stays which is why I was so excited that The Jay was pet friendly. Bagel loved the big comfy beds and getting to sniff every corner of the hotel room.
Since The Jay treats pets as family (because duh why wouldn’t they), they also go the extra mile by providing essentials such as dog dishes, treats, and dog beds upon request. Just so you know, bringing a pet will cost $125 per visit but all emotional support animals stay free in California…just saying.
ENJOY IN-ROOM DINING DELIGHTS
No hotel stay is complete without room service am I right? Well, you can savor the luxury of choice and convenience with The Jay Hotel’s in-room dining. (Especially if you’re here for work, just charge it to the company card!)
Whether you’re craving an early morning breakfast, a private dinner, or a late-night snack (don’t worry, no one has to know except when you do your expenses later), the varied menu is available from 7 am to 10:30 am and again from 5 pm to 10 pm daily.
BEST TIME TO VISIT SAN FRANCISCO:
I live here so I’m biased to this answer. I think there’s a benefit to visiting San Francisco anytime of the year because San Francisco’s charm is undeniable year-round. However, the unarguably best time to visit would be September to November. Autumn offers some of the city’s warmest temperatures year-round, not to mention fewer crowds than summer. We call it our Indian Summer and it coincides with one of the best weekends in San Francisco known as Fleet Week. Regardless of when you visit, every season brings something special, from bustling festivals and outdoor beauty to world-class dining.
