When you think of Napa…“luxury” might be the first thing that comes to mind, but what about cozy? For me, it’s both. Especially during shoulder season when the crowds thin out and the pace slows down. That’s exactly the vibe The Setting Inn captures so well.
Tucked just off Highway 29 near Yountville, this luxury boutique stay blends upscale touches with a warm, relaxed feel. We spent our time wine tasting, watching hot air balloons take off from our terrace, and playing board games by the fire. It was the perfect weekend getaway from San Francisco.

However, none of that impacts the integrity of my reviews. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
For travelers coming from the Greater Bay Area (ie. San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose, etc), The Setting Inn is a convenient and scenic drive away. We live in San Francisco so it’s a pretty short ~1 hour drive up 101 and 37 for us. Depending on your starting point, you can typically reach The Setting Inn in under ~2 hours via Highway 29 or the Silverado Trail. With traffic it might be a different story so make sure to check the conditions before you leave! (We also love driving up early to beat the traffic, parking the car, and heading straight to our first tasting at Trefethen Family Vineyard right around the corner).
If you’re visiting California for the first time, the closest major airports are San Francisco International (SFO), Oakland International (OAK), and Sacramento International (SMF). All are within a 1.5 to 2-hour drive to the hotel. When it comes to visiting wine country, I think renting a car is highly recommended, as Napa Valley is best explored on your own schedule. The drive also offers stunning views of the vineyards, and it’s a great opportunity to stop for groceries, local snacks, or a bottle of wine before checking in! 🍷
As some of you might know, I’ve stayed in all types of hotels from five-star luxury to cozy B&B’s but the one thing I always prioritize is service and comfort. And from the moment we checked into The Setting Inn, my fiance and I knew we made the right choice.
There are three main room types at The Setting Inn and we were lucky enough to get upgraded to the 2 bedroom suite during our stay. I guess those are the perks of driving up on a random Wednesday winter evening haha. It was definitely slow season in Napa but that’s why we loved it! Our two-bedroom cottage was 990 square feet and included two king bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living room with a fireplace, and an outdoor terrace. And we had it all to ourselves! We tried to get friends to come up last minute but everyone was busy.
Even if you’re not staying in a suite, all the rooms at The Setting Inn are equipped with Nespresso coffee makers, LATHER Bamboo Lemongrass bath amenities, and complimentary daily continental breakfast from Bouchon Bakery. Some rooms even have private terraces, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine at sunset. Regardless of which room type you pick, you seriously can’t go wrong with any of them!
Beyond the rooms, The Setting Inn provides a range of amenities to enhance the guest experience even further. Guests can enjoy the community lounge known as The Barn, a fitness center featuring a Peloton bike, electric bicycles for exploring the area, outdoor fire pits, yard games, and more!
The property also offers complimentary on-site parking and wireless internet. For wine enthusiasts, there’s an exclusive tasting experience of The Setting Wines available during the stay. The best part about staying at The Setting Inn is that you won’t want to leave after a full day of wine tasting! Here’s a full list of the additional amenities offered:
While there technically isn’t a restaurant on-site, you’re in luck! You’re in the heart of Napa Valley and there are plenty of great dining options just a quick 10-minute drive away. And if you’re feeling lazy like us…DoorDash delivers right to the inn, making for an easy and cozy night in. The Setting Inn does treat every guest to a freshly delivered breakfast from Bouchon Bakery, though, so while you might be on your own for dinner, you can rest assured your mornings are deliciously taken care of.
If you’re looking for a quiet, design-forward retreat in the heart of wine country, The Setting Inn checks all the boxes. Thoughtful touches, spacious rooms, and top-tier service make it feel like a true home away from home 🏡
Whether you’re sipping wine on the terrace or starting your day with fresh pastries from Bouchon Bakery, this place nails the balance of laid-back luxury. It’s the kind of spot you’ll want to return to, again and again and again 🤍
