Don’t get me wrong – Santorini and Mykonos are cool and all but they’re just so freaking crowded nowadays. What about a getaway to a lesser known (but just as beautiful) Greek island? Are you thinking of visiting a place that has unforgettable beaches, lush green mountains, insanely fresh seafood, and has 20x less crowds than Santorini?
Then it sounds like Corfu, Greece is the perfect place for you to visit! Corfu is easily one of the most beautiful and romantic islands of the Ionian Sea. Here you’ll find the ultimate Greek guide and 3-day travel itinerary to visiting this beautiful island in the Mediterranean!
To help you plan the best 3-day itinerary for Corfu island, check out this article (w/ a sample itinerary at the bottom). This complete first-timer’s guide to Corfu includes the best time to visit Corfu, as well as boutique hotel recommendations for where to stay, and all of the best activities, things to do, and places to see.
All accompanied by a sample itinerary I’ve personally vetted, tested, and approved 😊

There is no bad time to visit Corfu, as the island has something to offer visitors all year round. However, the best time to visit ultimately depends on what you are looking for.
There’s no way around this. If you want to enjoy the beaches and swimming in the ocean is important to you, then you’ll have to visit from May to September.
I really enjoyed my visit during the first week of June where the weather was pleasant and it was still relatively quiet. If you decide to go, just be aware that from June to August, the weather is HOT AF and the island becomes extremely crowded. It’s still less crowded than Santorini though so it’s still 100% worth it in my opinion 🤷🏻♀️
If you want to enjoy the outdoors and experience a quieter side to Corfu, visiting during the offseason would be a great choice. While the summer crowds have thinned out by now, the island retains its charm with lush greenery and blooming wildflowers. Fall/winter are a great time to enjoy the milder temps, explore historic sites like the Old Fortress and Achilleion Palace without the summer heat, and savor delicious local cuisine at cozy tavernas with fewer tourists.
You’ll get to encounter a more authentic side of Corfu (which I love), with a slower pace of life and the opportunity to hang with the locals.
When it comes to accommodations, Corfu has a pretty wide range of options, from budget-friendly apartments to single property boutique hotels to five-star luxury resorts. For first-time visitors, the best neighborhood to stay in is probably the town of Corfu, as it’s a convenient base for exploring the island and it’s also close to many restaurants, shops, and bars.
If I had more time, I’d probably go spend a few days up north along the west coast near Sidari, Afionas, or Palaiokastritsa (I think these areas are pretty kid-friendly too).
Ps. I exclusively use Safara to book all of my hotels ever since Hotels.com changed their loyalty program (which is absolute crap now). Their rewards program used to be great but now you barely get any points or rewards even if you spend thousands with them. Safara immediately gives you $100 for signing up and up to 10% cash back on every single booking.
Seriously – run don’t walk to Safara Travel. Plus, It’s also a really cool startup that my old coworker’s husband created so I love getting to support them at the same time.
If you’re willing to splurge and by that…I mean you should DEFINITELY splurge… then you need to book a couple nights at Angsana Resort and Spa in Corfu.
Angsana Resort and Spa in Corfu is a luxurious 5-star hotel that offers breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea. This exclusive resort is located on a hillside above the town of Corfu, providing guests with a secluded and peaceful retreat.
The infinity pool here is UNBELIEVABLE. Like, I’ve been to some pretty cool infinity pools in my time but this one takes the cake. It LITERALLY looks like the water meets the clouds and because of its location, you basically get sunlight for the entire time that it’s light out.
The hotel offers a wide range of accommodation options, from deluxe rooms to villas, all of which are beautifully designed and equipped with modern amenities. All of the rooms feature private balconies or terraces, offering panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding landscape.
Angsana Resort and Spa in Corfu also has two restaurants, which serve authentic Mediterranean and international cuisine. And yes – their handcrafted cocktails are also delicious and a lot of them are made with freshly squeezed juice! 🍍 🍓 🍉
Located in the heart of Old Town Corfu, The Siora Vittoria Boutique Hotel is a charming and intimate option for travelers looking for a unique and upscale stay on the island. The rooms are beautifully decorated, with a mix of traditional and modern design and offer all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The hotel also has a terrace with a pool and the staff is friendly and also really knowledgeable about Corfu town and its surrounding areas.
Rooms here typically start at $165/night.
Situated in Kavos, The Sirocco Hotel in Corfu is a great choice for those looking for a comfortable and convenient stay on the island. The hotel is located in a prime spot, with easy access to the main town, beaches and other popular tourist spots.
The rooms are well-appointed and offer modern amenities such as air conditioning and wifi. The hotel also has a pool and a terrace with great views. The staff is friendly and helpful and will assist you with any needs you may have. Overall, the Sirocco Hotel offers a great value for your money and is a great base for exploring all that Corfu has to offer.
Rooms here typically start at $155/night.
I usually don’t recommend apart-hotels but Greece is full of them so I’d be doing you a disservice by not recommending one, especially one as quaint and clean as Fotini Studios.
With only 12 spacious rooms, Fotini Studios in Paleokastritsa is the perfect place for those looking to stay in a quiet neighborhood, just a short drive from the main town and the beaches. The studios are well-equipped and offer a comfortable and convenient place to stay, perfect for solo travelers or couples.
All the studios at Fotini are clean, modern and spacious, featuring a kitchenette, air conditioning, and wifi. The studios also have a balcony with a view of the surrounding area and the sea. They’re truly a great value for money, and a great option for those looking for a more independent stay in Corfu, where you can enjoy the freedom and flexibility of self-catering.
Rooms here typically start at $45/night.
Ok so you’ve booked your flights to Corfu and just finished arranging your hotel(s). Now we need some activities and things to do to fill your 3-day Corfu itinerary when you arrive. These are some of the favorite things I did during my trip to Corfu!
THIS HIKE ALONE IS LITERALLY THE REASON I BOOKED A TRIP TO CORFU. I know that’s pretty insane but I’ll seriously never forget the first time I saw a photo of the oceans from Porto Timono and told myself I had to go before I died.
I’m not going to lie, it was kind of a trek getting here but I was also physically sick from all the traveling so that probably had a factor in the difficulty of this hike. The Porto Timoni trailhead is located just a short drive from the village of Agios Georgios, up a small dirt road, and offers stunning views of the rugged coastline.
The hike itself is considered moderate in difficulty, with rocky terrain and steep inclines, but the reward at the top is a breathtaking panorama of the Ionian Sea. To get there, the best option is to rent a car and drive to Agios Georgios, from where you can follow signs to the trailhead. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Agios Georgios and then a taxi to the trailhead (I would advise against this because there’s a lot of other great things to see in the area that you’ll want/need a car for).
Whichever way you choose to get there, make sure to bring a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, and wear appropriate footwear for the rocky terrain.
The Old Town of Corfu is another great area to explore! The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for its Venetian and French architectural influences.
Visitors can expect to find charming narrow streets lined with colorful buildings, quaint cafes and restaurants, and beautiful squares such as the famous Liston. The Old Town also boasts several historical landmarks, including the Old Fortress and the Church of Saint Spyridon.
You can learn all about the history via this 3-hour guided walking tour!
One of the top things to do while visiting Corfu is to explore one of the many beautiful beaches on the island. Liapades beach and Rovinia beach are two must-see beaches on the island. Liapades is known for its crystal-clear waters and a picturesque village, while Rovinia beach is a secluded spot with a stunning view of the sea.
To get to these beaches, you’ll likely need to rent a car. You also want to try and get there early as the place tends to fill up around noon. If you’re checking out Rovinia Beach, make sure to wear closed toed shoes as there is a 10-15min dirt path down to the beach.
I promise the waters and rock-jumping from Rovinia are worth the trek!
I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that you probably want to spend some of your vacation on a beach right? I mean, that is why it’s called vacation after all. The beaches in Corfu are also so different than the other Greek islands so they’re definitely worth checking out.
Some other popular beaches include Paleokastritsa, Sidari, and Canal d’Amour. Paleokastritsa is a picturesque beach with crystal-clear waters and a beautiful view of the surrounding cliffs. Sidari is a lively beach with a variety of water sports available and Canal d’Amour (literally, love canal) is a unique beach with a narrow channel that connects two bays.
All three are known for its ridiculously turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. There are many things to do and see around these beaches like restaurants, bars, and nearby activities, like boat trips and water sports.
Another fantastic thing to do is to rent an all-day sun lounger from Anemomylos, located near the Windmill on the northwest coast of the island. This is a great spot for visitors who want to grab a bite to eat and enjoy the beautiful view of the sea. The restaurant is famous for delicious Mediterranean cuisine, fresh fish, and cold drinks like aperol spritz!
The best part? You can take a dip directly into the ocean here!
The Achilleion Palace, a stunning testament to opulence and Greek mythology, is a must-visit destination on the island of Corfu. Built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi), it boasts breathtaking views of the Ionian Sea and features exquisite gardens adorned with statues of Greek heroes.
Here, you can explore the opulent interiors, wander through the lush gardens, and imagine yourself living the life of royalty in this enchanting palace. I don’t know about you but I already (delusionally) imagine myself living a life of royalty everyday.
Calling all airplane lovers!! This is an activity that you’ll definitely enjoy. Even if you’re not an aviation fanatic, it’s still super fun to watch massive airplanes take off and land overhead.
As you stand on the picturesque peninsula, the planes seem to descend right over the tiny island of Pontikonisi and the monastery itself. The roar of the engines, the size of the aircraft, and the sheer proximity create a unique and thrilling spectacle.
Pro tip – for an even better vantage point, head to the Skyview restaurant for a rooftop drink and a front row seat to the planes.
Okay I am literally SO MAD that I didn’t take advantage of getting to see Albania on my last trip. Like, seriously still kicking myself in the butt for this one especially because I was in Corfu for so long. Maybe one day 😩
If you’re a “country collector” like I am, then you HAVE to take a day trip to Albania. Not just because it’s beautiful and it’s another country to add to your list, but because the Albanian coast is actually SO HARD TO GET TO. It requires hours of driving from inside Albania and the fastest way to get there is actually via Corfu.
So if you have the time – I would definitely prioritize this activity as Albania is still SO UNDERRATED in the best way possible.
I know a few travel blogger friends that booked their day trips to Albania via GetYourGuide. They said it was a long day but totally worth it especially if you don’t know when you’ll be back to this part of the world!
A must-visit destination for foodies visiting the island, Avli is a restaurant situated near the water that offers beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding landscape. It’s the perfect spot for a weekend lunch of romantic dinner. (I was traveling by myself and it was also the perfect place to read a book and enjoy a glass of wine outside).
The restaurant is known for its fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and its menu features traditional Greek cuisine with a modern twist. The menu includes a variety of appetizers, such as tzatziki, dolmades, and keftedes, as well as a selection of seafood, meats, and vegetarian dishes.
The menu changes seasonally, depending on the availability of local ingredients. The restaurant is also famous for its homemade bread and pastries.
You might’ve seen this place on social media because it’s SO MUCH FUN! Who doesn’t love sipping on aperol spritzes and rock jumping into crystal clear waters in the middle of European summer?
Located right on the beach in Paleokastritsas, this seafront bar and restaurant offers spectacular views of the sea and the surrounding landscape. The atmosphere at La Grotta is lively and fun, with a mix of locals and tourists.
The location is also great for swimming and diving, as the waters are crystal clear and perfect for snorkeling and diving. The rocks also provide a great spot to jump into the water, and the bar has a diving board for those who want to take the plunge!! (I did not use the diving board but plenty of people did haha)
I mentioned this restaurant earlier for an incredible view of the planes! Situated south of Old Town, Skyview is a unique dining experience that offers fantastic views of the island along with multiple areas for plane-spotting.
This restaurant is located near the airport and has an outdoor terrace, providing diners with an exhilarating perspective of the airplanes taking off and landing. Visiting the restaurant at sunset is the best time to go as it offers an unforgettable experience.
The restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, including traditional Greek cuisine and international favorites. The menu includes a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and main courses. The restaurant is also known for its grilled meats and seafood dishes. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous.
In addition to the itinerary, here are some commonly asked questions for first time visitors to Corfu.
The official currency used in Corfu, Greece is the Euro (€).
Greece is part of the Eurozone, so the Euro is the sole legal tender throughout the country, including the island of Corfu.
There are a few ways to get around Corfu including car rental, public bus, taxi, and scooter rental. If you’re staying in Old Town, the bus system is actually pretty easy to operate. However, I highly recommend renting a car. Corfu is a pretty big island and you don’t want to limit yourself to seeing things you can only see along the bus route.
Corfu is extremely well-positioned and is surrounded by several smaller islands, each with its own unique charm. And don’t forget about it’s neighbor Albania!
You could consider making a daytrip to Paxos and Antipaxos or making it your next stop for a couple of days via the ferry. There’s also the Diapontia Islands which include:
I doubt you’ll get bored of Corfu in 3 days but if you do – there’s plenty of neighboring islands and places to see while you’re there!
Check out my sample 3-day Corfu itinerary below ⬇️
As you can see, 3 days in Corfu isn’t nearly enough time to explore the entire island. We barely even scratched the surface of what the southern part of Corfu has to offer. It’s crazy how big the island really is!
I hope this itinerary was a good starting point for your Corfu trip planning! Now you can see that Corfu offers a unique blend of history, culture, and stunning natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for a 3-day getaway to Greece.
Most importantly, you can escape the crazy crowds of Santorini and Mykonos and discover a more authentic Greek island experience. You’ll want to explore the picturesque Old Town, hike to breathtaking viewpoints like Porto Timoni, relax on the pristine (and still kind of secretive) beaches, and savor fresh Mediterranean cuisine. With its charming villages, lush landscapes, and friendly locals, Corfu promises an unforgettable 3-day adventure.
