With over 100+ different trails to choose from on the island of Maui, it’s easy to get analysis paralysis when deciding which hike you want to explore. Keep reading to learn more about Waihe’e Ride Trail and why I recommend it to anyone visiting the island in 2024 🌿
Given the amount of information online already about this trail, I’ll keep this post brief. Since Maui is significantly less populated than Oahu, there is less of a choice when it comes to well-maintained hiking trails. Personally, I prefer a short but sweet butt-kicking climb rather than a longer trail with less intensity. (Head to any of the coastal walks if that’s your thing)
Enter Waihe’e Ridge Trail into Gmaps and you’ll be led right to the trailhead.
There is an overflow lot that I would try to avoid. It will add an additional couple miles to your hike and you’re better off just waiting for someone to finish their hike and leave in the primary lot.
A 1500′ rise in elevation in 2.2 miles
Out and back trail
~4 miles roundtrip
~2 hours to complete
Mostly uphill, fairly steep hike
Can be slippery after rain
+ Go early (gates open right at 7)
+ Avoid the overflow lot
+ Bring bug spray
+ The view going up might be completely different on the way back down so take photos both ways
+ In the same neighborhood as the 13 crossings trail (if you’re not completely exhausted)
Did you get a chance to hike this trail? Let me know about your experience in the comments section.
